The Millennium Group (TMG) is a group of Cameroonian professionals and their families who bond together to foster mutual professional, economic and social interests and also pool their efforts to support social and charitable activities concerning Cameroonians both in Cameroon and in the UK.
TMG is currently made up of 11 families with members working in such areas as academia, engineering, medicine, local & central government, the voluntary sector, law, and senior business management.
The primary activities of TMG focus on satisfying the social, professional, networking and entrepreneurial needs of its members whilst they reside in the UK. These needs are met through:
● Monthly family & social gatherings
● Regular fun events and family outings
● A njangi and lottery syndicate
● Internal investments and a venture fund managed by TMG’s Investment Committee for investing in businesses from outside the group
● All TMG activities incorporate members’ children as active participants governed by a ‘Children’s charter’ overseen by a ‘Children’s Commissioner’
● TMG manages a solidarity fund financed by members for providing mutual support to its members.
TMG members have a yearning to be net contributors to Cameroon by helping Cameroonian causes in the UK and at home. Group activities that support this need include:
● Members pool their professional skills to support Cameroonians; in the UK for example –
● Providing advice, support and industrial placements to Cameroonian students
● Providing mentoring and shadowing opportunities to young Cameroonian professionals.
● Investing in Cameroonian run businesses
● TMG has drawn up a ‘Corporate Social Responsibility Framework’ which governs group charitable activities:
● TMG supports some of our new universities in Cameroon
● TMG provides 2 major grants each year to support voluntary groups in Cameroon working in the areas of healthcare, disability, education and community development.
TMG is proud to be associated with the YPCN, working in partnership to build a solid Cameroonian community in the UK.
